Vermont Blue Advantage® Moves Forward for Older Vermonters
New health insurance option for retirees beginning in 2021
Berlin, VT, October 19, 2020— Vermont Blue Advantage is proud to announce it was awarded a contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, allowing the affiliate of Blue Cross® and Blue Shield® of Vermont to provide Medicare Advantage plans to older Vermonters for coverage beginning January 1st. Vermont Blue Advantage will offer Medicare Advantage plans built on Vermont relationships, with a health network in all 14 Vermont counties, as well as taking advantage of the nationwide Blue Cross Blue Shield health network to take care of Vermonters as they travel.
“With Vermont Blue Advantage, Vermonters can keep the network they’ve grown to trust while getting more from a comprehensive Medicare Advantage plan,” says Pamela Getsie, Vermont Blue Advantage plan president.
A full 96 percent of Vermont hospitals and doctors are in the Vermont Blue Advantage network, protecting those patient-provider relationships that have been developed over the years, and 95 percent of providers nationwide are in network.
Vermont Blue Advantage was formed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont to offer older Vermonters Vermont-grown Medicare Advantage plans. Offered by private insurers, Medicare Advantage plans bundle the components of traditional Medicare into one seamless health insurance plan. Medicare Advantage (Part C) includes: Part A (hospital services); Part B (medical services); and often Part D (prescription drug coverage). In addition to prescription drug coverage, dental, vision, and hearing benefits are examples of common benefits that are added to Medicare Advantage plans.
