Effective immediately, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont (Blue Cross) will waive out-of-pocket costs for members who need in-patient treatment for COVID-19. By eliminating cost share for those with COVID-19, Blue Cross members will be able to get the treatment they need without copays, coinsurance, or deductibles. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont had previously announced that it was covering COVID-19 testing performed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Vermont Department of Health (VDH), or a laboratory approved by CDC or VDH, with no cost-share. “During this unprecedented time, extraordinary measures are necessary,” said Don George, President, and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont. “Eliminating out-of-pocket costs assures our members and their families that they are supported if they are diagnosed with this illness,” George says the company is working round-the-clock to respond to the evolving situation in Vermont in collaboration with employers, providers, and community business partners. Since March, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont has implemented a number of measures to support members, employers, health care providers, and the Vermont community during the ongoing pandemic, including • Significantly expanding telemedicine options and telephone-only access to local Vermont health care providers, to ensure safe access to necessary care and mental health support services for both members and providers • Allowing flexibility for pharmacists to refill essential prescription medications, and promoting information about prescription delivery options from our local pharmacies. • Offering a COVID-19 special enrollment period for the uninsured to get qualified health care coverage through Vermont Health Connect or directly with Blue Cross. • Waiving out-of-pocket costs for COVID-19 testing, associated visits, and treatment.
