The Vermont Health Plan is a new Vermont-based health maintenance organization which was created by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont, Fletcher Allen Health Care and the Rutland Regional Medical Center to serve the health care needs of Vermonters. These local organizations recognized the need to keep the cost of health care affordable for all Vermonters. Therefore, they worked together in an unprecedented manner to develop an answer that would include all of the elements of the health care system.

Placing You and Your Physician at the Center of Care The Vermont Health Plan concept to health care delivery is different in that it is not only based upon high-quality care, but also directs the management of care to the local level, rather than decision-making occuring in far-away corporate offices. We believe that this is best achieved by working directly with local health care provider organizations and local doctors to ensure that high quality and to encourage you and your physician to develop the best course of medical care for you when you need it.

The Vermont Health Plan Features
When you select The Vermont Health Plan, you also choose a local primary care physician, (a pediatrician, internist, or family practice physician), who will become responsible for your medical care. You will see your primary care physician when you need medical attention and she or he will guide you through the health care system in order to receive the highest quality, most appropriate health care available.

Many preventive care services are available to you and your family at no charge when you are a member of The Vermont Health Plan. These services include annual physical examinations, well-child care, mammograms, and immunizations. Other routine medical services are available upon payment of a small co-pay.
