Crossroads: Imminent Choices In Health Care
Sheraton Hotel & Conference Center, November 8, 2005

Our sixth successful health care symposium focused on changes that will affect health care over the next several decades.

The half-day session, which was attended by roughly 300 providers, health care groups, policy makers, and others simply interested in good health, addressed the most up-to-date information on how individuals can manage their own health and nutrition.

Speakers at the symposium included BCBSVT president Bill Milnes (hear his speech here (mp3) ), as well as:

  • Andrew Zolli, a futurist specializing in connecting trends in demographics, technology, geopolitics, and business. Among other things, Zolli is the Futurist-in-Residence at Popular Science, a Fellow for the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, and a frequent commentator on Public Radio's Marketplace. You can hear his presentation here (large mp3 file), as well as view his Powerpoint presentation.

  • Dr. John Kenagy, vascular surgeon and physician executive. Kenagy, a health care management strategist with thirty years of experience, has concluded that health care is a broken system and has made it his quest to fix it. The goal behind his work is to create improvement in health care that starts on the front line with "Ideal Patient Care." You can hear his presentation here (large mp3 file).

  • New York Times health columnist Jane Brody. Brody says "moderation and variety, not deprivation and denial" are her watchwords. She recommends - and actually insists upon for herself - daily activity. Her articles appear in more than 100 newspapers around the country. She also appears on hundreds of radio and television programs. Sample recipes from her cookbook appear here (pdf).
