The Vermont Health Plan Sponsor Vermont Baseball

On August 10, 2004, BCBSVT and The Vermont Health Plan sponsored the Vermont Expos game at Centennial Field. To view a video shot on our Day at the Park, you must have QuickTime or Windows Media Player installed on your computer.

The sponsorship, which took months of planning, came off very successfully as a health and safety day at the ballpark. Events and booths operated by BCBSVT and TVHP volunteers included:

Bike safety

Volunteers taught kids bike safety rules and hand signals. They also handed out coupons inviting kids to get photo bike licenses (which made kids promise always to wear their helmets) made at our Williston office.

Health statistics booth

Two of our own nurses took people's blood pressure and measured their body fat, then compared the percentages of fat to targets for their demographic groups. They also gave tips about healthy eating.

Big mouth

Kids loved our Big Mouth display! They threw different plastic food look-alikes into a giant mouth. Unhealthy food got thrown back! Kids had a good time learning what foods are good for them and what aren't.

Here Today

We showed Bess O'Brien's documentary about heroin use in Vermont, Here Today, and handed out schedules for the September-October tour (sponsored by The Vermont Health Plan) that brought film screenings and a discussion series to 11 communities across the state.

Teddy bears

BCBSVT employees donned a teddy bear suit to raise awareness of the Bear Hugssm program, which BCBSVT sponsors to provide teddy bears to children during medical emergencies. We raffled off a bear, and our life-sized teddy even danced with Champ during the game!
