What you and your family need to know about the exchange.
What is the health insurance exchange?
It's an online marketplace where individuals and small businesses purchase standardized insurance products, referred to as Qualified Health Plans. Vermont's online marketplace, or exchange, is called Vermont Health Connect.
Who buys health insurance through Vermont Health Connect?
In 2014, all individuals must purchase their health insurance through Vermont Health Connect.
When am I required to sign up?
Open enrollment for Vermont Health Connect was from October 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014. If you missed the open enrollment, you must wait until the next open enrollment period unless you have a qualifying life event.
Can I keep my BCBSVT plan?
While you are required to purchase coverage through Vermont Health Connect, BCBSVT offers ten different Qualified Health Plans with a variety of deductible, co-payment and out-of-pocket cost options.
What if I can't afford coverage?
Many Vermonters are eligible to receive assistance in paying for coverage through tax credits and/or public assistance, depending on income.
