Preventive Care

As part of federal health care reform, BCBSVT will cover certain in-network evidence-based preventive services at no cost to members for members covered by a plan that began after the Affordable Care Act (ACA) passed.

How does the Affordable Care Act define
preventive services?

ACA defines preventive services as:

  • Evidence-based items or services that are given an ‘A’ or ‘B’ rating by the U.S. Preventive Task Force.
  • Evidence-informed preventive care and screenings for infants, children and adolescents supported by Health Resources and Services Administration.
  • Additional preventive care and screenings for women as supported by Health Resources and Services Administration.
  • Immunizations that are recommended by the Advisory Committee of Immunization Practices (CDC).
